The biggest worry for parents today is ensuring the best for their children, whether it is education, career or even providing outdoor recreation.  Anyone who has raised a child or watched a child grow knows that children involved in extra-curricular activities are well groomed. Being a pre-school teacher I always insist on the importance of outdoor play, fresh air and exposure to sunlight.

Children & extra-curricular activities

Extra-curricular activities play a vital role in the growth and development of children. Hidden talents in children are discovered and it helps your child to develop creative abilities and imaginative skills. It may be gymnastics, ballet, sports, gardening, trekking or even swimming to name a few. The social and academic benefits reaped from such extracurricular activities are phenomenal and have life-long benefits. Studies show that outdoor time helps children grow lean and strong, enhance imaginations and attention spans, decreases aggression, and helps boost classroom performance too.

The sun is shining, birds are singing,
The sounds of laughter, children playing,
C’mon friends, it’s a beautiful morning.
Let’s step outside and play.

Don’t we just love being outside,
All that fresh air, sun-shine blinding your eyes,
Kids  scramble &  giggle while climbing trees,
Singing a song, being  so carefree.

The grass is our carpet,
Sit down to read a story,
Lets pack a picnic basket ,
And munch on a cookie.

My God, the group games have begun,
fun squabbles and prancing free,
To see smiles upon children’s faces,
Is more than the world to me.

In our quest to improve our lifestyle and upgrade our standard of living we look for homes with better amenities and luxuries. Wi-fi, proximity to schools and markets etc are on top of our priority list.
But have we thought about what our children want?  They cannot live in a tower like Rupanzel did, they need to explore like Goldilocks did. Why worry about Wi-fi and play video games? Children need to play and explore and learn while doing things themselves.
