Here is how TikTok is caring for the Environment!

TikTok for the environment – Since its launch in India in 2017, TikTok has gained immense popularity among over 200 million users in India providing a platform to share exciting and innovative content. Each user on TikTok has an opportunity to display unique talent by generating content that strikes a chord with the other users. TikTok has helped everyone become a content creator and has the flexibility to upload videos on a wide variety of themes such as food, travel, education, comedy, and DIY. The ultimate aim is to inspire users to share their passion and creative expression through their videos with a global audience.

However, it would be wrong to assume that TikTok is merely an entertainment platform. TikTok for the environment- it wants to use the platform to promote various social causes and caring for the environment is one of them. High levels of pollution have caused damage to the environment, and it is now time to act before it is too late. With this mission in mind, TikTok has launched the following campaigns for a better future

#CleanIndia:

TikTok has teamed up with youth volunteer NGO, Bhumi to launch the #CleanIndia challenge. Cleanliness is vital as it has significant health and economic benefits. TikTok aims to contribute towards the Swachh Bharat Mission that has been launched by the Central Government. Popular users on TikTok have participated in this challenge and created videos that have reached the farthest points in India and influenced people to care for their environment. At present, this challenge has 5.4 Billion views.

#SaveourOceans:

TikTok has partnered with Conservation International to launch the #SaveOurOceans challenge. Conservation International works across the globe to protect oceans and marine ecosystems, and the people whose lives and livelihoods depend on them. TikTok users are encouraged to show their support for ocean conservation through their short videos and raise awareness to protect our oceans for a better future, and through a creative call of action inspire others to do the same. At present, this challenge has 1.4 billion views.

#ForClimate:

To create awareness about the rising problem of climate change, TikTok has collaborated with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. TikTok has launched three new stickers on its app that showcase the extreme climate change that the world is facing. These stickers include rainstorms, snowstorms, and global warming. Through the hashtag, TikTok has also inspired the users to take part in raising awareness by creating videos on this topic. The campaign also included an in-app quiz to let the users test their knowledge about climate change. As on date, the campaign has 443.5 million views.

#IamLessPlastic:

TikTok is committed to increasing the awareness levels about the perils of plastic pollution. In order to further the mission, TikTok collaborated with United Way India and launched the #IAmLessPlastic campaign. This is an in-app challenge that invites TikTok users to join India’s biggest movement against plastic pollution. Users shared through short videos the steps taken to make their neighborhood clean and free of plastic with others in the TikTok community. TikTok for the environment – The ‘plogging’ videos, jogging while picking up litter, were shared as part of India’s plog run in October 2019. At present, this challenge has 242.1 Million views.
