New Covid-19 vaccine. Do vaccines have side effects? #KnowYourVaccine

I love my life and I’m an optimistic person! But there are days when somethings don’t go as planned. Just like the month of April 2021, which did make me a big fool. It started when I decided to finally get myself vaccinated and when the slots for people above 45 years could register for the vaccine started. But that was not what life had in store for me. My husband and I both tested COVID positive and so my vaccine appointment had to be rescheduled for a later date.

The coming days were filled with COVID emotions of sadness, grief, anger, uncertainties, clashes, and debates about my husband’s and my health, our oxygen levels, diet, and plans for the next 14 days of quarantine at home. As I completed my 10th day of being COVID positive, I was now thinking again about getting myself vaccinated. It is the only way to safeguard and protect ourselves, our family, and the community. The vaccine was like a light at the end of the dark tunnel. I would have to register my number again and wait for the date to take my vaccine at a nearby hospital. I am now looking forward to feeling safe and protected again, no matter what the side effects.

A COVID-19 vaccine should be accessible to everyone, everywhere. And slowly every country is doing their best to get it available to all the citizens. So, here’s what my research yielded:

Do COVID-19 vaccines have side effects?[1][2]

It may have some side effects, which is the normal way that your body is building immunity towards the virus. The side effects may affect your ability to do daily activities, but they should go away in a few days. Some people have no side effects at all. #knowYourVaccine

Vaccines like any other medications can have side-effects and they vary from person to person.

1. You may experience redness, pain, discomfort, and swelling on the site of the injection. To reduce pain and discomfort where you got the shot, you can apply a clean cool washcloth to the area. Gently exercise the hand so that it doesn’t get stiff.

2. You may also experience bouts of tiredness, headache, fever, chills, muscular pain, nausea, etc. You can take mild paracetamol for fever. Plenty of fluids and rest throughout the day to overcome the above vaccine side effects.

3. Other side effects that may be developed are loss of appetite, giddiness, muscle pain and chills too.

4. Side effects also depend on the first or second dose of vaccine administered.

5. No two people are experiencing the same pattern of side effects, so one should not go by general comments. Don’t panic and talk to your doctor for advice. #knowYourVaccine

Is it all bleak news?

Definitely not. I was pleased to find out that Sputnik V will be the third vaccine that will be launched against coronavirus in India.[1] Sputnik V happens to be the world’s first registered vaccine that is based on a well-studied human adenoviral vector-based platform. This is a reassurance.  And it is one of the three vaccines in the world with an efficacy of over 90%.[2] Sputnik V vaccine demonstrated the efficacy of 97.6%, based on the analysis of data on the infection rate of coronavirus among those in Russia vaccinated with both components of Sputnik V.

While this new Sputnik V vaccine is fueling hope, don’t forget to #KnowYourVaccine before you choose one for yourself and your family. It is an important decision you’ll make so ensure you have all the facts with you.

Covid vaccine and its side effects have become a concern to many. As you daid no people are same so there will be diferences in how their body accepts the medicine. Just because someone else got the side effects, doesnt mena that others will also go through the same experience.

Yes, the side effects of the vaccine may vary from people to people. My parents and father-in-law were totally cool when they got vaccinated while my mother-in-law felt weak and stiffness in her arm.

My mom, Masis and many senior family members took a Jab and none of them had any issues. They successfully had their 2nd Jab too and are fully vaccinated now. It’s time for the younger bunch to take the Jab n stay worry free. It’s for our betterment and to free India from Covid.

I have taken my first jab and I had the side effects. I had high fever, shivers, bodyache and headache. But that lasted only for a day and second day I was good.

Hey Anahita, thanks for focusing on this topic. I believe every vaccine does have a side-effect depending on what one is going through. Hence it’s best to consult your doctor regarding all your ailments before taking a vaccine.
