T – Travel when you are young

I have been very fortunate to take a holiday at least once a year, to some place far or near. The fun part is to do something out of your comfort zone. Like not knowing what to expect on the next road you drive through, the strange people you will meet and above all the long lasting memories you will make.

Why travel when you are young?

Travel when you are young

1. YOLO

You only live once they say. An opportunity lost is lost forever, the same goes for your travel opportunities.  So make the most while you are young and able. Sometimes we put off travel plans for another date and time, but then the time never comes. I realized this now, as due to the present COVID-19 scenario, and in spite of having tourist visas of countries I wish to travel, I cannot travel.

2. Travel makes you independent from a young age

Traveling while you are young especially solo will make you a more independent person. You not only have to make decisions on what to do on the trip but also fend for yourself. Besides doing your own daily chores, you have to be independent in every way. You will face real-life situations that will make you street smart as well as improve on your organizational skills.

3. The art of budgeting

Making decisions on spending money is an important aspect during travel. The worst thing that can happen to you is running out of money or having your wallet stolen. Hence comes the art of budgeting and spending wisely. Plan your travel activities in such a way to cover up all your expenses. Budgeting finances should entail what, when, where, and how you want to spend during your travel.

4. Best physical condition

Would you ever take a trip to Machu Picchu when you are in your sixties, I don’t think so. Your body will not be able to handle the difficult trek. When you travel while you’re young, your body will be able to handle anything that life throws at you. Due to high energy levels, stamina and strong immune system, youth is the right time to travel.

5.  Roughing it out

Certain trips need you to experience a little discomfort for eg- while visiting Sundarbans Delta. It may require you to face difficulties, sleep at odd hours and stay in tents. While you are young you don’t mind going through these difficult actions and can rough it. However, after a certain age you need your comfort zone. You even need to take care of yourself in terms of getting adequate water, sleep, medicines etc.

6. Travel young to enrich your career

Traveling while you are young can lead to many career opportunities and you can explore possibilities at that age.  In many ways, it can lead to a very rewarding career. It will boost your confidence, but it can also make you a better negotiator. In addition, it helps you develop your skills in problem solving and creative thinking.

7. You don’t have many responsibilities

When you are young, you have lesser responsibilities in terms of loans, mortgage, kids, and other household attachments. Trips and traveling before this stage of your life will be better than later in life, and this freedom will be priceless. You will be able to travel stress free with lesser complications.

8. No resentment later on

It just gets worse with age; just think on reaching a later stage in life and having to regret of not seeing the places you could have at a young age. A romantic destination is fun to visit in your youth than old age.

9. Travel is the best education

You get a wider opportunity to learn cultures, language, art, history, and politics when you are younger. Travel has a bigger impact on a young mind as it helps expand your knowledge.

10. It helps build empathy

Traveling young gives you plenty of opportunities to make new friends.  And the ability to understand the feelings, situation and cultures of another person. When you are younger you make the effort to understand things better, and want to see things from their point of view.

Travel must be done while you’re young. Get going out there to explore new horizons. Even if you don’t have tons of money, the time is now.

Best advice ever. Although, we will be travelling until we’re old. We want to capture the moments now on camera to be able to look back on when we’re older.
