Vodafone Education does it again at Bundi

A Girl is no less than a Boy

Only a handful of people actually realize the importance of educating a girl child. Families often think of a girl as a burden and often want to save the money for their dowry rather than spending it on her education. Even after declaring education as a fundamental right, there are so many obstacles that prevent a girl child from actually getting an education in our Country.

As a teacher, I believe a  girl should be educated in order to ensure a better life for herself. If she is empowered she would be in a condition to add on the income of the family, and raising the living condition of her family.

Vodafone Education empowers Rural Women

The month of June saw Vodafone empower Rural woman with the M-Pesa movement. Vodafone has harnessed the power towards proactive change with its M-Pesa and Self-defense Umbrella Initiative. It is a great effort to promote the economic and social empowerment of women, especially in rural areas. That is the path of great change and advancement of rural areas.

Vodafone does it again.

Vodafone India, in association with the NGO – Educate Girls (EG), has been working on raising awareness on importance of educating a girl child and providing quality education for all underprivileged and marginalized girls who drop out of school at a young age due to lack of support and resources. This initiative is in line with the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ program launched by our Prime Minister to encourage education for girls.

Vodafone, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, as part of its commitment to the national movement ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, partnered with Educate Girls, (an NGO that focuses on enrolling, retaining and improving the learning outcomes of young girls aged 6-14 years) and raised Rs. 4.5 crore through several initiatives to support the education of over 120,000 out-of-school girls. These young girls hail from Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, Ajmer, Bundi and Rajsamand districts in Rajasthan.

As part of the campaign, employees of Vodafone India come together to raise money through internal fundraising drive – Giving Championships. The money raised is then used to send girls back to school from a district in Rajasthan. In the year 2014, the program has helped ensure education for over 60,000 girls in the Bundi district of Rajasthan. Till date over 119,000 adolescent girls have benefited from this support over 2 years.
